Ruth is survived by her son, Ancil “Andy” (Jamie) Brown of Waterloo, Illinois, and her nephew Jim Jr. (Lori) Budd, of St. Paul, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her sister, Georgia (Jim) Budd, of Boulder City, Nevada, and her parents, Ancil and Gladys Worthen of Santa Rosa, California.
Ruth was born on May 15th, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Ancil and Gladys Worthen. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, and the State of New York University with a Master’s Degree in Education. After moving to Providence, Rhode Island, she worked at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf. Later her career path took her into computer programming, graphics and other occupations after she had her only son, Andy.
She enjoyed traveling in her younger years after college, backpacking in Europe, enjoying touring around the continent.
She has been very dedicated to her church, the First Unitarian Church of Providence. She was part of the Women’s Alliance and also served in the church’s Food Pantry.
Ruth has always wanted to help others. She wanted to donate her body to research, which unfortunately was an unsuccessful option due to her medical condition. The decision was made that she would be cremated, and her ashes would become part of a seashell-style reef that would be placed in the ocean off of the coast of Florida, organized by the Neptune Society. http://www.nmreef.com
