Edward C. Monarch Jr., age 93, of Little Compton, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Arlene M. (Fahey) Monarch. They shared a life for 66 years and were each other’s best friend, confidant, and partner. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Edward and Kathryn (Kiley) Monarch Sr.

A graduate of Coyle High School, he was the starting pitcher for their baseball team. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII and the Korean War as a Seaman First Class. In 2019, he had the privilege of laying the wreath at the Normandy American Cemetery Memorial. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from Providence College.

Mr. Monarch worked as a Regional Manager at Equifax for many years prior to his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a consultant for insurance services. By following success wherever it took him, he inspired a pioneering spirit in all of his children.

An avid golfer, whose proudest moment was a hole-in-one, he enjoyed traveling, spending time at Bakers Beach where he was a lifelong member, reading the NY Times cover to cover, rooting for the Giants and the New York Yankees and keeping up with current events and politics.

Very generous and giving, he loved to donate to all charities, especially charities that helped children.

He is survived by four children, Kathleen Monarch of Sarasota, FL, Paul Monarch and his wife June of Washington D.C., Anne LaSelva and her partner Jason Morgan of San Jose, CA, Tina Monarch Johnson of Bethel, CT; six grandchildren, Ryan Monarch, PHD, Liz Monarch, Samantha Johnson Clubb and her husband Cameron, Max Johnson, Grey Monarch, and Sydney Johnson; three great grandchildren, Erin, Jack, and Leon Monarch; a beloved sister, Jean O’Brien of Somerset and many adored nieces and nephews who will miss papas pancakes, his conversations, warm hugs, and interests in their future endeavors. He will be missed immensely. He wanted to be remembered as a “good man.” His legacy will live on.
