Betty Ann Beckerman passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Betty Ann was born in Baltimore to Oscar Clute Thomas and Eva Katherine Riggle. Her father died when Betty Ann was three years old, and she split much of her childhood between Baltimore and Southwest Virginia. Following her first marriage, which ended in divorce, Betty Ann and her two daughters, Virginia (“Vicki”) and Donna, moved to Arlington, Virginia outside Washington, DC. There she met Samuel Beckerman, whom she married in 1966. His two children from a previous marriage, Paul and Helene, were as much a part of Betty Ann’s family as her daughter and the son, David, they soon welcomed. The family lived in several places throughout the Northeast, including New York City and Rochester, New York, before returning to Northern Virginia in 1976 where Betty Ann became a real estate agent. Following many happy years there, Sam and Betty retired to Cape Coral, Florida which Betty Ann referred to as paradise. They were active members of Temple Beth Shalom and Betty Ann was a long-time member of the congregation’s choir. A few years after Sam’s passing in 2007, Betty Ann began providing in-home assistance to other seniors needing companionship and preparation of meals, a job which she found quite rewarding. A brother, Burrell Driscoll, passed in 2019. She is survived by her sons, Paul Beckerman and David Beckerman and her daughters, Vicki, Donna, and Helene.
