A consummate mother and homemaker, Renie loved to spend time with her friends, children, and grandchildren. She was a loving, fun, funny and caring friend, and she kept up correspondence—including the beautiful greeting cards she was known for—with friends going back to kindergarten. She was known as “Bee” to her grandchildren, stemming from her ever-growing collection of novelty bee items.
Renie had many interests over the course of her life. She stayed fit and liked to be active, participating in aerobics and other fitness classes for many years. She was also a big sports fan, and loved watching Nationals games and going to the ballpark. A craft lover throughout her life, she was an especially talented calligrapher, a skill she kept up throughout her life. She organized her high school and college reunions for over sixty years. She attended many Broadway shows and loved music of all kinds, and was particularly fond of seeing her eldest son, Andy, play in his band.
She lived for the last four years at the Jefferson, where she made many new friends. She also kept discovering new interests, from Wii bowling, to a weekly sports chat group, to participating in the Jefferson chorus.
Renie leaves behind to cherish her memory, five children: June Jewell, Andy Burdetsky, Marjorie Burdetsky, Matt Burdetsky, and Abbe Steel; and nine grandchildren: Sally Allain, Phillip Jewell, Jordan Jewell, Kyle Jewell, Lauren Jewell, Brianna Burdetsky, Ben Burdetsky, Ethan Steel, and Emma Steel.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Benjamin Burdetsky who passed away on April 7, 2000.
