She was born on November 30th, 1932 to the late Eduard Stroh and Lina Haybach in the village of Waldhausen, near Weilburg in Germany. She completed her studies at the Gymnasium Philippinum in Weilburg.
She began her career as a bilingual (German and English) secretary for Pepsi in Frankfurt, and soon moved to Geneva Switzerland where she worked as an executive assistant for Catholic Relief Services, and learned to speak French. There, she met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Moore, and they were married in the Cathedral of Limburg an der Lahn, in 1961. Together they embarked on a life that took them around the world, in service to the US Department of State: to the Belgian Congo, Rwanda, Korea, Côte d’Ivoire, and finally Italy, before returning to the US. Along the way, she was a wonderful mother to her two children, learned to play tennis, hosted many diplomatic social functions, and added Italian to her repertoire.
Upon their return to the US, Minni began a brand new career in real estate, with Long & Foster in their New Homes Division. Widowed far too soon at 61, she devoted herself to her work, earning awards for excellence in real estate sales, and to tennis -- her true life’s hobby -- playing three times a week with three different groups. Through the Glebe Ladies tennis club and the Arlington Y, she found a wonderful social network that sustained her in retirement and kept her on the court until age 86. In retirement she continued her global travels with the McLean Community Center, enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and returned every other year to her hometown in Germany, to visit family, childhood friends, and catch up with alumni.
Family came first for both Minni and Gene. They were deeply devoted to each other, and also to their children, and they both took great pride in their children’s accomplishments. Sadly, Gene did not live long enough to share in the joys of grandparenting with her, but Minni loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and in return, they loved their “Oma”.
She is survived by her son Michael Moore (Lynne) of Sterling, VA, daughter Sheila Reynolds (Andy) of Bellevue, WA, three grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Amelia Reynolds, and Sean Reynolds; and in Germany: sister-in-law Rosemarie Stroh, nieces Sabine, Birgit, and Heidrun, and nephew Klaus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene W. Moore, sisters Irmgard Jaroschka, Erna Schweitzer, Hilde Grossman, brother Hermann Stroh, sisters-in-law Mary Frances Moore and Veronica Moore, and niece Uschi Wurz.
A celebration of life visitation for Minni will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. A private family interment will take place the following day at Fairfax Memorial Park.
