Joe Albert Romans, 77, of Fayetteville, WV died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Raleigh General Hospital, after a short illness. Born, February 28, 1939, in Leitchfield, KY, and moved to McMinnville, TN when he was 5 and grew up there. He is the son of the late Elisha Paul and Lillie Ella Snider Romans. He graduated from McMinnville Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He served as a sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve for 6 years. He was a member of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church. He was employed by Union Carbide in Sheffield, AL for 13 years before moving to WV and continuing to work at Alloy, WV until he retired in 2001. In the years to follow, he had a lawn care business, and for the last 10 years he worked part-time for the Town of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers and an infant sister, many family members whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Charlene Kirby Romans, and his only son, Paul Trent Romans and his wife, Elisa Taylor Romans; three grandchildren, Ashe Henry, Dorothy Estelle, and Connor Trent Romans; sisters-in-law, Emogene Patterson of Nashville, TN; Edna Ruth Kirby of White House, TN; Earline Kirby of Dothan, AL; two first cousins, Richard Shrewsbury, LaGrange, GA; Dr. Larned Snider, Louisville, KY; many nieces and nephews, cousins, family members and many, many friends. Joe always loved times spent with family and friends. He loved to fish, hunt, and played many sports. He was a Midget League Football Coach and a Little League Baseball Coach for many years. He was an avid University of Tennessee football fan, and a University of Kentucky basketball fan. He loved to follow SEC sports. Visitation with the family will be Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6 - 8 PM at the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, 401 W Maple Avenue. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Robert Wood presiding. Burial Services will follow at Huse Memorial Park. Cousins will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Town of Fayetteville. Please designate “Fayetteville Town Park”. In addition, donations may be made to the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church.
