John Dinnen, 81, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 9, 2020. He was born on January 18, 1939 in Bronx, New York to the late John & Grace Dinnen (Mackie). John was a devoted patriot service in the US Marine Corps for 4 years, followed by many more years in the Army & Air Force Reserve. He was a plumber for over 20 years working in several large construction projects in New York City. John then spent 18 years as a road inspector for the Clarkstown Highway Department. In 2001 he and wife moved to the Palm Coast area to enjoy retirement life. John was very active in the Grand Haven Community and had a large circle of friends there. He enjoyed fishing, collecting civil war memorabilia and gardening but he had a special place in his heart for animals and was a fierce advocate for them. His sense of community and service to others lauded him with several awards from the American Cancer Society for his contribution to helping others cope with their cancer diagnoses. John will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the North Shore Animal League. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Arlene; children, Graceann and John Dinnen. He also leaves behind wonderful friends and neighbors.
