During my high school years in Flatonia (1984-1987) I worked at Smith Farms in the afternoons and evenings loading trucks. Mr. Kallus was one of my supervisors. I always enjoyed working for him because he was a fair and honest man. He never got upset or showed any anger towards the employees, even with the the mischief and horsing around that teenage boys tend to do. Mr. Kallus recognized the importance of school and school related activities. He was flexible and worked with me on my schedule when I had to leave work to study for tests and while I played high school baseball. I loved listening to Mr. Kallus' stories and words of wisdom. I remember thinking how lucky Ron was to have him as a grandfather. I'm certainly glad I had the chance to know Mr. Kallus. He was a wonderful man and and I'm quite sure an even better father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. Denise and I send our deepest sympathies to the Kallus family.
