Bernice E. Richards, 89, died unexpectantly February 25, 2021, at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines. She was born August 26, 1931, in Great Falls Montana, daughter of Peter and Mary (Baranko) Steffani.
Bernice graduated from Great Falls High School and then completed secretarial school. She went on to work as a secretary for the U.S. Army in Honolulu Hawaii, where she met and married Lt. William N. Richards in 1956. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in September. After working for the Army which included time in the Pentagon, Bernice worked for over 40 years at Waterford Park and Hialeah racetrack as an executive secretary as well as a mutual teller at Gulfstream Park, Calder and Hollywood Dog Track.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ed and Bud. Surviving in addition to her husband, William Richards are her daughter Lynn Grace and her husband Bobby; sons, Mark Richards and his wife Karen, Myles Richards and his wife Traci; 8 grandchildren, Kris Andaur, Ryan Andaur, Cody Grace, Jennifer Sandore, Jessica Richards, Juliana Bargfeldt, Jesse McIntosh and Dylan McIntosh; as well as 14 great-grandchildren.
A private ceremony will be held 10:00 AM Monday, March 1, 2021 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Davie Florida. Those who wish to remember Bernice in a special way may donate in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital via the link below.
