It is with profound sadness that the family of Marcia Hidalgo announce her peaceful passing on May 10, 2022 at the age of 82 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sandra (Medhat) and Galo, her beloved grandson Gabriel, brothers and sisters Hernan (America), Leonardo (Magda), Jenny, Rodrigo, Rocio and Fernando (Angela); as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 18 years, Dr. Jaime Beltran; and her parents Corina and Lorenzo Hidalgo. Marcia graduated as a Doctor in Medicine and Surgery at Universidad Central del Ecuador in 1971. She traveled to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to specialize in Psychiatry. In 1975, she went to Santiago, Chile to further her education and specialized in Children and Adolescent Psychiatry. She practiced medicine at Vaca Ortiz Children’s Hospital in Quito and her private practice for many years. Marcia was very passionate about helping youth in need through difficult times. She also went on to teaching Psychology at Universidad Catolica de Quito for several years until her retirement. She was honored by the Rotary International Foundation in Ecuador with the Paul Harris Award for her humanitarian work with children. Marcia loved to entertain family and friends in many gatherings over the years. Her enjoyment of traveling took her to many places around the world. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother and spending time with her grandson. Later in life she developed a passion for creating art through painting and crafting beautiful tapestries. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday May 14, 2022 in Quito, Ecuador. A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held at a later date in Ecuador. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St Albert, Alberta, Canada for their care and compassion.
