Donald Francis Szamier passed away September 12, 2021 in Fort Smith Arkansas. Don and his late wife Joan were a resident in Greensboro, North Carolina for over 44 years and this is where they considered home. Don was born April 23, 1932 in Bristol, Connecticut, son of Frank Peter Szamier and Frances Kathryn Kaczmarczyk Szamier. He graduated in 1955 from the General Motors Institute with a BSIE degree. On November 20, 1954, he married Joan Arlene Rewey in Fllint Michigan He then served in the U.S. Navy which took the family to Newport, RI, Bremerton, WA, and Long Beach, CA. After Don's honorable discharge in 1959, they made Long Beach their home and all three children were born there. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed terribly. He was an avid Fly Fisherman and enjoyed this passion with his grandsons. Don was also a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where he drove the church van monthly to pick up members who could not drive to church. He very much enjoyed helping out other church members and those less fortunate through his work with Sertoma Club where he served as President for many years.
