Emory Spear Dockery, Jr., 87, of Fort Smith, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. He was born on February 19, 1934 in Blairsville, GA to Emory Spear, Sr. and Elizabeth Candler Dockery. Emory was the Director and Curator for the Darby House, he served to establish and maintain it for several years. He tirelessly put his own time and resources into the Darby House, for it to stand as a forever memory to Brigadier General William O. Darby, and as a legacy to the U.S. Army Rangers. Emory was a veteran pilot of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Vietnam. He loved to fly. Emory cared for others, especially his fellow veterans.
Graveside Service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday at the Pavilion of the Fort Smith National Cemetery, with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; two daughters, Elizabeth Ashlyn Ritch (Tom) of St. Simons, GA and Stephanie Whitlaw-Turner (Rocky Ienna ) of Nicholson, GA; a son, Ian Emory Whitlaw of Commerce, GA; stepdaughter, Courtney Jordan (Doug) of Lubbock, TX; stepson, Dr. Christopher Collier of Utica, NY, along with eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Public Viewing will be from 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
