MARJORIE E. (MEYER) KOEHLINGER, 97, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, she attended North Side High School. She worked for many years in the daytime dress department of Wolf & Dessauer (L.S. Ayres). In 1939, she married Erwin W. Koehlin-ger and entered into a happy union that spanned 59 years. Together they enjoyed travel, lazy summer days at the lake, nights eating coneys and playing cards with family, and-most of all-they delighted in raising two sons, Denis and Roger. She was a talented homemaker, devoting considerable skill and energy to the practical but exquisite care of her sons and, eventually, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She cooked countless Sunday dinners, sewed clothes, gave haircuts in a special chair in the basement, held annual summer fish frys of Erwin's catch, and made homemade candy and "grits" at Christmas. She was a skilled quilter, seamstress, gardener, and cook who usually won at the Euchre table and had an unbeatable left hook at the bowling alley. A woman of deep Christian faith, Marjorie together with Erwin, was part of the founding generation of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She also quilted with several church groups, most recently with the Dorcus Circle at Trinity English Lutheran Church. "She will be remembered for her wisdom, her determination to live life to its fullest and on her own terms, and for her mischievous sense of humor." She is survived by sons, Denis (Judy) Koehlinger and Roger (Bette) Koehlinger, both of Fort Wayne; brother, Robert (Janet) Meyer of Speedway, Ind.; grandchildren, Jeff (Pam) Koehlinger of Midland, Mich., Lisa (Brian) Griffin of Whitestown, Ind., Amy (Charles Robinson) Koehlinger of Tallahassee, Fla., Michael (Jennifer) Koehlinger of Jacksonville, Fla. and David (Ildiko Incze) Koehlinger of Reno, Nev.; great-grandchildren, Andrew Koehlinger and Ryan Koehlinger, Hannah Robinson and Zachary Koehlinger, Aubrey Griffin, and Isaac and Abigail Koehlinger; nieces and nephews; and dear friends, especially Kim Dager. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Erwin W. Koehlinger, in 2000; parents, Frederick and Nora Meyer; and sister, Dorothy McGill. Service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., with visitation one half hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Parkview Home Health & Hospice, or the church.
