Norman Grandos, 93, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021, at the Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born November 13, 1927, to Vera (Buaro) and Charles Grandos, Norwegian immigrants who met on the ship to Ellis Island, Norm was raised in the Logan Square area of Chicago and enlisted in the US Marines in 1944, serving until the end of WWII. After the war, he enrolled at the University of Illinois, where he threw shot put for the track team, joined Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity, and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He began his career with Motorola, then took a job with Magnavox and moved to Fort Wayne where he met Doris (Parker) Grandos. They were wed on December 21, 1957, and were married for 63 years. When not working as an engineer, Norm could be found golfing, bowling, tinkering with an ailing car, strumming the guitar, or amusing his five children with his hilarious sense of humor. Norm will be greatly missed by his family: wife, Doris Grandos; son, Jim Grandos (Debbie); daughters, Sue (Steve) Maggio, Jane (Jerome) Boundy, Patty (Jeff Howard) Grandos, and Elizabeth (Darin Toft) Grandos; and his ten grandchildren. Services will be held October 17th at the Towne House Chapel: visitation 1-2 pm, memorial service 2-3 pm followed by light refreshments. Norm will be laid to rest October 18th at Covington Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the University of Illinois Engineering Visionary Scholarship Fund (https://giving.illinois.edu/) or to a favorite charity in Norm’s name. Arrangements are entrusted to Klaehn, Fahl and Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, In 46819.
