Paul E. Long, 85, of Fort Wayne passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Parkview Supportive Care Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 4, 1933 in Terre Haute, Indiana, a son of the late Herbert and Ruth Long. He married the love of his life, Betty Whitecotton on November 10, 1952. They moved to Fort Wayne in 1963. He retired from General Electric after 25 years and then went on to work his dream job at Foster Park Golf Course where he worked and played a round of golf. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church since 1985. He loved his family and friends, playing cards, and was an avid. I.U. basketball and Dodgers baseball fan. Surviving family include his wife of 66 years, Betty; son, Paul R. (Mary) Long; daughter, Lisa (Joe) Beerbower all of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his sister, Rose Detro; and brother, Bill Cottom. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and Rev. Dr. Derek C. Weber officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Supportive Care Unit at Parkview Hospital, Randallia Dr., or Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
