Cordie May Murray
July 27, 1928 – November 1, 2019
Cordie May Murray was born July 27th, 1928 to Luther Curtis and Cordelia May Cantrell in Gainesville, Texas, and went to be with the Lord November 1, 2019, at the age of 91 years.
She was married to Dorlyn Choice "Doyle" Murray on December 14, 1949. They were married for 58 years. Together Cordie and Doyle help to start Southside Baptist Church in Gainesville, TX in the late 1950s. Cordie was a very devout Christian woman who lived everyday sharing her faith and love of Jesus Christ to everyone. She was unashamed of her faith and convictions and truly walked the walk and talked the talk to everyone she encountered. Many people were brought to Christ by her witness that she shared with everyone willing to listen. She didn't care who you were or what your status but only that you had the opportunity to know Jesus and be saved.
She was an avid game player and competitor. Moon, 42 and Wahoo were among her favorite games. Those who knew her and played with her can still hear her whoops of excitement and her bouncing up and down in her chair as she went on a successful run.
She was a loving Mom, grandmother, and neighbor.
She was always willing to help anyone in need, and she made sure that on holidays, if you did not have a place to go, you were always welcome to celebrate with her family.
She was not afraid to hurt your feelings or call you out if she saw an issue and felt you were not right. Cordie was blunt and feisty but at the end of the day she did everything out of love and the convictions of her heart. Cordie loved everyone and she was loved. Cordie was the embodiment of compassion and love for her family, friends, church, and community.
She is survived by her brother Curtis Cantrell and sister Julie Lane, her 6 children, Patricia DeAx, married to Rick, Doyle Murray, married to Phyllis, Karan Murray, Michael Murray, married to Susan, Daniel Murray, and Martha Vilanova, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Cordie was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Murray, grandson Axel Murray, sister Dorothy Sexton and two brothers Gentry Cantrell and John Cantrell.
