Curley Russell, Jr. was born on December 13, 1947 in Artesia, New Mexico to parents Curley Russell, Sr. and Mary Lee Russell. He gave his life to Christ at a young age at the Bethel Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico.

As the oldest of five children, Curley set an example for his siblings. After graduating from high school he was drafted into the US Armed Forces in 1968. He proudly fought in the Vietnam War under the 25th Infantry division in Ho Chi Minh. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970.

He moved to sunny Los Angeles where he became a proud father of his first son, Courtney Russell in 1970. On June 23, 1973 Curley married the love of his life, Hazel Reed in Belzoni, MS. In 1974 they welcomed a son, Corey Russell in Los Angeles, California and in 1981 a beautiful daughter Brandi Russell (Wallace) in Greenwood, MS. Shortly thereafter, they made a home in Fort Worth, TX where Curley passionately worked for the US Postal Service for over 30 years. He retired in 2007.

His family never had a care when it came to something being broken or not working properly, because of his amazing knowledge and impeccable sense of ingenuity. As the designated, “life of the party”, he always demonstrated his love for life and his love for people, because he never ever met a stranger.

The Lord called Curley Russell Jr. to his heavenly home on August 6, 2018. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Hazel Russell; sons, Courtney Russell and Corey Russell (Joy); daughter, Brandi Russell Wallace (Jeff); their grandchildren: Elijah, Isaiah, Xavier, Cynai, Carter, Reed, Grayson, Chloe, Noah and Marley; siblings, Rosemary Cheadle, and Ronald “Tweet” Russell (Anne) and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Curley Russell, Sr. and Mary Lee Russell; sister, Barbara Wendorf, and brother, Richard Russell.

To the Family....My sincere condolences.

My Friend, My Brothern(In Spirit and Friendship). I always called Curley (Vino). We grew up together..beginning in Artesia and then when his family moved to Carlsbad, years later. What a time we all had. Myself, (his sisters...Barbara and Rosemary, brothers...Ronald (Tweet) and Richard (Red). Barbara and Red Rest is Peace Barbara and Richard (and Mr. and Mrs Russel (Rest in Peace)l (who was like a second Mom to me). We were all inseparable!

They were my second family....especially when my Mom passed away years earlier.

Our lives growing up together was the best. Hard times come and go everywhere. We just enjoyed our lives. Our parents made sure we never had to worry about anything.

I Love and miss all of the ones...who have gone to be with the Lord.

I miss the dancing (swing out) with Curley...the Cha, Cha with Barbara and the silliness of Richard and his playful games. Curley and Red was my brother Larry (Rest in Peace) best friends. Curley and I hung out in the years to come....because he always (as said earlier) was the life of the party. Always introducing me to his friends...inhopes of marrying me off. (smile) in Los Angeles. We all lived in Artesia...later on in life they all moved to Los Angeles. I would always fly in to see them. Barbara was my Best Friend and Sister.
You might ask yourself....why Lord....they were the Best! But being a Christian...you always know the answer, God had His Special plans for them and their "Homegoing Celebration!" My heart was truly broken when they went home to be with the Lord. He Loved them All More! It was too hard for me to say to Good Bye to Barbara and Curley. I said Good Bye in my own way. The family.....I say to All of you....I apologize for my absence in saying good bye at the services. My Spirit and Heart was their, along with my pain and sorrow. One could never imagine my sincere loss.

My Love and Compassion to the Family. May God Bless!
