James Arthur Reaugh

Jim had one brother, Burton Reaugh.

Family members include: wife, Doris J. Reaugh. Children: Robin Steinmann(Gary) of Edwardsville, IL; Cindy Bartlett (Jeff) of Fort Worth, TX; Randall Reaugh (Melinda Trautman) of Denver, CO. Grandchildren: Jennifer Brunson (Casey); James Newton; Rebecca Duncan (Dustin); Ashtyn Reaugh. Great grandchild: Collier Brunson.

Jim enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor under Admiral Nimitz. Jim played baseball for the US Navy while in Hawaii. He was the seventh generation of the Reaugh family to actively serve in the Armed Forces, going all the way back to the American Revolution.

After discharge from the Navy, he continued playing baseball in Miami, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Doris Jean Cooksey. They married on December 2, 1949.

Jim and Doris returned to Topeka and he continued playing semi-pro baseball while attending Washburn University where he graduated with a BA in Social Studies and minor in Physical Education.

Jim continued to play semi-pro baseball after graduating and becoming a teacher. Jim was a high school history teacher and coach of many different sports, from basketball to volleyball. He taught at Riverdale High School in Kearney, Nebraska. Robin was born there. In fact, Jim was playing in a baseball game with the Kearney Irishmen team when Robin was born. The announcer gave the news over the loudspeaker about the birth of Jim and Doris’ first child.

Jim then became a salesman for Skelly Oil Company. The family relocated to Eureka, Kansas where Cindy was born. They remained there for a few years until he was hired by Schenley Distillers as a salesman in the now “wet” state of Oklahoma. The family moved to Tulsa and Jim’s career was in full stride. Randy was born shortly after the move to Tulsa.

In 1975, Jim and Doris moved to Denver, Colorado with Schenley, then Guinness of North America for the remainder of his career, where he retired in 1991.

After retirement, they moved back to Oklahoma at Lake Fort Gibson where he fished and golfed and did woodworking. Jim and Doris moved to Broken Arrow and remained there until moving to Fort Worth in 2013.

Many friends were made along the way during their lifetime together: The Perrine family, the Brandt family, the Aldridge family, the Wright family, the Roy family…..and all of those friends’ children are still considered family by the entire Reaugh family. We would like to thank you for the many years of friendships we have enjoyed with you all.
