Pete Claytor, 91, met his heavenly father face to face on July 13, 2015 at 8:08 a.m. Only heaven knows the number of lives God used Pete to touch.

Pete was born in Birmingham, AL., March 26, 1924. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army. While serving his country, Pete graduated in 1945 from Officers' School in Ft. Benning, GA and was also able to spend thirteen months in Alaska.

In 1950, Pete married Billye Jo "Jody" Puryear in El Dorado, AR. Pete worked in sales for U.S. Steel Corp. for over 26 years and also worked for Life Outreach International Ministries for 30 years.

Survivors: Wife, Jody; daughters, Lyn Craig (Richey Craig) of Fort Worth, Louanne Hibbets (Ken Hibbets) of Maypearl, TX, Laure Henthorn (Les Henthorn) of Maypearl, TX; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

On Friday at 3:34 a.m., I heard Dad saying something to Mom. She motioned for me to come in the room where Dad's Hospice bed was. I wish I had recorded it. He said: "wasn't it the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? I just saw the tip of it , the edge of it. I don't think I could stand it being more beautiful without my heart just bursting!" For the next 2 hours he talked about The Lord, his family, how blessed he was. Then he said: Next Saturday is the big closing, the finale! It's going to be great!" And here we are on Saturday celebrating the precious, godly life of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend....what a finale to his earthly life as he met his Savior face to face!"

"Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9

Cindy and I first met Pete and Jody through our marriage-long friendship with Richey and their daughter Lyn. We instantly loved this very loving and Godly couple. Jody reminded me of my also petite & beautiful wife and Pete was like a father, best friend and especially hero. After my own Dad went to Heaven, I was filled with so much pride and joy when Pete called me "Son." For the times they were members of Glenview, I watched scores of men adopt Pete as their hero and for many, the father they never had. There was no conversation too sacred for Pete to share, no topic so Jesus-centered that Pete would fail to discuss to any who would listen - and listen we did! And such fun! The laughter still rings in our meeting rooms for Men's Ministries and bus trips from all of us laughing with this wonderful gift to so many of us. And even when Jody had to get on to "Daddy" and us for stepping over a line or two, we all knew the tenderness between them. We will miss Pete so and yet are filled with grateful hearts for the hours, days and years we were blessed by this giant of a man - a Real, Godly Man.

I met Pete about 35 years ago. He was always there at just the right time for me. Pete always called me at the very moment I needed an encouraging word or just a caring Christain friend to listen. Pete exemplified what being a Christian is all about. I will always cherish our lunches, the conferences, the Promise. He always lifted me up and encouraged me. You and yours are in my prayers. God bless you all. Jim Tucker
