Pauline R Whittemore
June 15, 1928 – March 30, 2019
Pauline Ramona (Jacques) Whittemore of Marlborough, known as Polly, Mona, Mom, Nannie and Great Nana, formerly of Weston, died peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old and the beloved wife of the late Robert Spencer Whittemore for more than 67 years.
Born June 15, 1928 in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late Frank Leo and Yvonne M. (Ricard) Jacques of Weston. Mrs. Whittemore was raised in Weston, was a graduate of Weston High School, Class of 1945, and attended the School of Fashion Design in Boston before marrying and raising her children as a full-time mom and passionate homemaker.
Mrs. Whittemore worked for many years as a school secretary in the Weston Public School system, retiring as the Guidance Secretary at Weston High School in 1996.
She leaves her devoted son, Robert S. Whittemore, Jr. and his wife Judith of Fredericksburg, VA, her adoring daughter Susan Oliveira and her husband Fernando of Sudbury. She was pre-deceased by her brother Frank Jacques and her sister Mary (Jacques) McCauley. She also leaves her loving sisters, Marjorie M. Jacques of Weston and Shirley M. (Jacques) DePalma and her husband Joe, of Canton. She was the cherished grandmother of Nancy Whittemore, Nicole Wright and her husband Thomas, and Abby and Nick Oliveira; and proud great-grandmother of Tiffany and Cierra West and Autumn, Charlotte, and Thomas Wright. She was a very dear sister-in-law to Alden and Shirley Whittemore and Barbara Jacques, as well as a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A sweet and gentle lady, strong but compassionate, Polly was known for her love of her family, her kind and generous ways, her positive outlook, her fun sense of humor and cooking favorite dishes for her family. She enjoyed handwork and crafts, reading, tending to her flowers, keeping up with the latest local and world news, and in her later years she loved learning how to use her smartphone. She was a passionate Bruins fan. She enjoyed countless weekends and more than forty summer family reunions in Truro on Cape Cod, where she loved her steamed clam feasts, exploring with her husband. She loved cooking and caring for and playing with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She faced her health challenges with grace, optimism, and bravery. And whenever you face challenges in life, please remember and be inspired by our sweet Polly’s mantra, “tomorrow, it will be better”.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to Mass Audubon Society Fund for Nature at massaudubon.org or to the American Cancer Society at americancancersociety.org.
