Stephen P. Joy, Jr. of Framingham died Friday, April 20, 2018 following a short period of declining health.

He was 87 and the husband for 53 years of Mary (LaPreste) Joy. Mr. Joy was born, raised and educated in Framingham and a graduate of Framingham High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Salem. In civilian life he was a career fighter with the Framingham Fire Department.

He was devoted to his home and family and was avid New England Sports fan. He loved his garden, liked to tinker in his garage and was “fix it” type person to family and friends for their projects. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking and enjoyed cooking, often exchanging a receipe with a family member.

In addition to his wife Mary, he leaves his daughter Debbie Valpey, her husband Ted Valpey of Holliston, daughter Gina Lelio, her husband Brian Lelio of Hopedale, son Michael Joy, his wife Cathy Joy of Medway. He was predeceased by his daughter Sandy Mimms and is survived by 10 grandchildren; Danielle Valpey, Jeff Valpey, Taryn Valpey, Alex Mimms, Laura Mimms, Julia Lelio, Kayla Lelio, Jesse Joy, Brandon Joy, and Connor Joy, along with sister in law Patty Joy and nephews Joey and Jimmy Joy. He was predeceased by brothers James and Robert Joy and his first wife, Eleanor Berry Joy.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 25, at 11:00 am at the MetroWest/Wadsworth-Chiappini Funeral Home, 318 Union Ave., Framingham. Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment on Wednesday will be at St.Tarcisius Cemetery, Framingham. Memorial donations should be directed to The American Heart Association.
