John E. Turnmire Jr; age 72, of Middletown, OH; died Thursday November 19, 2020 at Carlisle Manor. John was born in Middletown, OH on September 22, 1948 to the late John E. and Mary Faye (Galyon) Turnmire. John retired from the US Army at the rank of Sergeant Major after more than 27 years of service. John served two tours totaling 15 months in Vietnam as an Artillery Forward Observer with the US 1st Infantry Division earning the Army Commendation Metal with “V” device for Valor. John also earned several other Awards and Decorations for his Combat Tour in Vietnam with an Honorable Discharge. John returned to the Army and also graduated Airborne “Jump” School to become a Paratrooper. He later attended Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, Air Assault and Rappel Master courses making him an Expert in Military Tactical Air Operations. John went on to serve in multiple Leadership and Instructor positions while assigned to combat ready units. While assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, he was the “NCO In Charge“ of the Pathfinder Section of the Air Assault School. In 1984 as a Sergeant First Class at the time, John completed US Special Forces training to become a Green Beret. For the next 10 years, John served in special operations assignments, conducting sensitive missions related to US National Security Objectives. He earned many other medals and honors before retiring in 1994, to include the Meritorious Service Metal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge and a Foreign Master Parachutist Badge. John also continued work as a civilian contractor for the US Government for several years after retirement. John is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marsha Turnmire; his children, Troy (Jessica) Turnmire, Marc (Tara) Turnmire, John Wayne Turnmire, Tammy (Zibi) Przbylowski, Tate (Carol) Cobb, Terri (Mike) Hawkins; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sister, Sherry (Ed) Rice. Funeral Services are 12pm Wednesday November 25, 2020 at the Berachah Baptist Church, 1900 Johns Road Middletown, OH with Rev. Lamar Ferrell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 11am to 12pm at the church. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery with full military honors.

This is for his family he left behind. May God comfort them during this tough time and give them understanding and peace. I know Lynn stood by him during his illness and she will have a void that will never be filled. Praise God he is no longer suffering and praying for peace for all
