LaVena Stull Longwith, 96, died peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Poet’s Walk, Fredericksburg, VA. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Longwith; her daughters, Sara Crider of Culpeper, VA, Jane Ensley of Gold Vein, VA and Margaret Skellie of Raleigh, NC ; her 3 grandchildren, David Hazlett, Virginia Hauger and Sara Brooks; and, 5 great grandchildren.
Born August 31, 1922 in Wimer, Oklahoma, she served 3 years as a Navy Wave in Washington, D.C. during WWII. After working as secretary at Centreville Elementary for 23 years, she retired from Fairfax County Schools and returned to OK to take care of her mother. She remarried, became a farmer and retired to Lincoln, Arkansas. During her illness, she returned to Virgina to be near her children.
LaVena was an excellent seamstress who also gardened, painted, quilted, and knitted. She was generous of her time, food and talents and, as such, was much loved by all.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lula, and father, Fred; brothers, George and Cecil; and, sister, Berieth.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 pm and 2 to 3pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Culpeper National Cemetery.
