Dolores "Dee" Grabel

November 19, 1923February 14, 2018

Dolores “Dee” Vernice Grabel, 94, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Valley View Health Campus. She was born the daughter of Art and Selma (Banning) Carlson on November 19, 1923. On November 29, 1947 she married the love of her life, Oliver Eugene “Gene” Grabel in Jefferson, OH, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2011. Dolores graduated from college with a Bachelors in Education. She loved teaching, and educated the young minds in kindergarten and second grade at Hayes Elementary School for 34 years. Among her other passions was playing bridge and reading. In fact, she had a strong reputation as a voracious reader, and could boast that she finished War in Peace in only two weeks. Dolores was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Garden Club.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan Grabel Law, of Fremont, Dave (Theresa) Grabel of Madison, OH, William Grabel, of Fremont, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Gene Grabel.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with services beginning at 1:00pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Susann Robitski Zimmerman will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Dolores’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Valley View Health Campus and ProMedica Hospice for their phenomenal care and support during her stay at the nursing home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to ProMedica Hospice or Birchard Public Library.

Sue and family, I am sorry to hear of your moms passing. I am glad i had the opportunity to reconnect with you at the other "facility" and was able to visit your mom a few times. I don't subscribe to the paper so I just found out today, a day late. It's so hard to lose our mothers...I am so sorry.

Susan, Bill, David and family,
We extend our sympathies to you on Dee's passing. We met in 1966 as tenants on Garrison St but became much more. The last time I visited Dee at Valley View she initially thought it was Jay. What a smile on her face when she realized it was me.
Keep Jesus close to you at this time.

GOD bless you and your family. Dee was always a pleasure to sit and talk with. My father was a resident with her at the center and she always showed concern for him and the others. Her stories and company will be missed. Prayers for peace to all of you.

My sympathy to your family. My husband and I met your Mom at Valley View. My father-in-law sits at the next table. She was always smiling and we always had a good conversation. Played pingo with her! Nice lady. We visit from Georgia.
