She was born on August 16, 1931, in Burlington Iowa, to Charles and Marguerite (Welch) Collins. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended Marycrest College where she earned a degree in Library Science. She went on to earn a teaching degree at Fresno State College. Janet worked for the Clovis Unified School District until age 50; however, she did not stop there. She went on to earn a Paralegal license, then worked for the IRS until age 70 where she was reprimanded for being too nice to delinquent tax payers.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Wigim Furmanek, (husband James Furmanek), and son, Edward Wigim.
Janet's greatest joys in life were going for coffee and eats with her long time teacher and church friends, attending events for the arts and Friends of the Fresno County Public Library, and trolling Big Lots for good deals.
In accordance with her wishes, Janet will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, on January 10, 2018 at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to the Friends of Fresno County Public Library.
