Dear Ishihara Family

Lawanna and I send our deepest sympathy to all of you. Like you, Mr. and Mrs. Ishihara, we have suffered the stinging loss of a child. It should not be this way.

I loved Rod, and I love his brother. They were my friends and team mates, and sometimes rivals, in a youth that both seems like yesterday and forever ago. Rod was a warrior in so many ways. I'll always remember his chuckle and hearty laugh, his ferocity in football pads and baseball cleats, his absolute desire to be the best on the field of play. And play he, and we, did. There were a good many reasons for us not to have been friends, but to Rod's credit we were friends nonetheless. For that, I'm thankful.

And Mr. Ishihara, I love my memories of you, coaching your sons and the rest of us, giving of your time so you could enrich their lives and ours, showing us the way in a world that didn't always provide the most wholesome of examples. You, sir, taught us how to carry ourselves with dignity.

Grace, Peace, and Love to you all

My heart goes out to the Ishihara family. I have so many fond memories of all of you from my high school years. Your home was the hub of activity and a place of comfort to so many of us. Since hearing the news of Rod’s passing, many friends are remembering his wonderful laugh. May the closeness of your amazing family give you strength and comfort. My love and prayers are with you.

Prayers, condolences, Rod Ishihara Family. Loved your sons like brothers, admired your family, immensely. So sorry for your great loss. Moved to Oregon right after our North Yosemite League Sophmore year Championship banquet...

Still hear your laugh, see your smile, recall your athleticism and the times we intentionally rang one another's bell during 3 years of playing on the same football team, practicing against one another, in my heart....
1st bottle of Gatorade ever handed to me came from your cooler at Fresno High during a Pop Warner Game.
Going to church with your family after talking most of the nite away.
We all will miss you immensely, remembering you fondly, till we are united togeather again,

I met Rod when I was going to Hamilton Jr. High. Same grade same first name. I didn't know another Rodney until then. We both loved baseball and had a little rivalry going at one time. I eventually would move away and went to Bullard where I played baseball there and I would run into Rod at the games. Always smiled and laughed with a great attitude. He was a great guy and I know he will be dearly missed. See you on the diamond one day Rod
