Tei was born on April 10, 1930, in Tokyo, Japan. She arrived at Seattle, Washington in May of 1954. Tei was a strong woman and supported her husband, John Asanuma, who was in the US Air Force. John and Tei were married for 59 years and had two sons Yoshi and Takeo (deceased).
