Tei was born on April 10, 1930, in Tokyo, Japan. She arrived at Seattle, Washington in May of 1954. Tei was a strong woman and supported her husband, John Asanuma, who was in the US Air Force. She traveled with him to New York, Goose Bay Labrador, Texas, Okinawa, and eventually settled in California. Throughout her travels she loved to bowl and joined many leagues. She retired with John in Kerman, Ca. in 1971, where she helped on the family farm and worked at Dole Fruit Company. Tei happily retired in 1992. John and Tei were married for 59 years and had two sons Yoshi and Takeo (deceased).

Tei is survived by her husband John; son Yoshi; daughter-in-law Rae-Ann; and granddaughters, Catrina and Cassandra.
A Private Memorial Service was held on Saturday, August 20, 2011.
