October 5, 1940 – September 5, 2020
Let us pause to honor the memory of Christine, age 79 of Thorton, CO. Christine entered this life on Oct. 5, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was the loving daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Mascaro) Thompson. She attended Ottumwa High School through 10th Grade and graduated American School, Chicago IL. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, D. Dean Downey on December 21, 1957. This union was blessed with four children: Donald D Downey, Jr., wife Linda, Thorton CO; Ricky J. Downey, wife Susan, Greeley CO; Debra A., husband Steve Buckley, Treasure Island, FL; and Brenda J., husband Didier Chauveau, Arvada, CO; as well as, ten grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. She often commented, “If I had known how much fun grandkids were…I’d have had them first!” Christine spent 14 years farming in New York, Missouri and Iowa. Then, the family moved to Colorado and entered the retail furniture marketplace for 31 years. Christine and Dean officially retired in 2002, bought a recreational vehicle motor home and travelled for 13 years; spending their springs and falls in Branson MO, because of their love for country music; spending their summers reconnecting with family around the nation; and wintering in dry, sunny Arizona. Christine and Dean then settled into condo living as a result of Christine’s impending blindness from Mascular Degeneration and Diabetes. Christine was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Gerald Thompson, Curtis Thompson, and Frank Thompson. She is survived by her husband and four sibilings: Daniel Thompson, M. Dean Thompson, Janet (Thompson) Linebaugh and Stanley Thompson. Christine will be cremated by Resthaven in Fort Collins CO. The family is holding a Celebration of Christine’s Life memorial on Nov. 27 at 2:00 at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens located at 8426 S. Highway 287, Ft. Collins, CO 80525 followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donors may contribute to the American Diabetes Association, the American Mascular Degeneration foundation, Denver Hospice, or the charity of their choice.
