Clay was born March 10,1958 in Belleville, Kansas to Theodore & M. Luann Maupin. He was the youngest of four siblings, and spent his childhood in Manhattan, Kansas. After high school, Clay moved to Boulder, Colorado to study architecture at the University of Colorado. Clay spent most of his adult life in Chicago & Milwaukee. In July of 2016 Clay moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be closer to family.
Clay had a fulfilling life as a dog father, brother, uncle, and friend. Murray, his beloved dog for 14 years was one of his true loves in life. He had a deep love for the arts, cooking, entertaining, travel and jazz. He thoroughly enjoyed the music scene in Chicago. He spent many nights at the Green Mill Jazz Club, and often took friends & family to the club. Clay was a phenomenal cook who enjoyed sharing and entertaining with those close to him. He was able to take two trips to France and immersed himself into the culture & cuisine. Clay’s family and friends will remember his witty, ornery and wicked sense of humor.
He is survived by his three siblings; Brad Maupin, Sue Maupin, and Kim Maupin Sweet. His nephews; Ben and Joe Baumann, as well as his nieces; Alana and Carina Sweet.
At Clay’s request and keeping with his personal nature, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of a memorial service, those wishing to donate in his name can do so to the Aids Foundation of Chicago at aidschicago.org or a local dog rescue organization of your choosing.
