Louise M. Cordsen, age 97 and longtime resident of the Fort Collins area died Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Lera Louise McClenny was born August 20, 1924 to Janie Lera Draper McClenny and Charlie Richard McClenny in Stephens County, Texas.
She graduated from high school in Big Spring, Texas in 1941 and in 1945 earned her B.A. & B.S. degrees in Religious Service with a minor in English from Texas State College, Denton, TX, now Texas Women's University.
She was secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater, TX before marrying Gordon G. Cordsen on December 16, 1945 in Big Spring, TX. The couple made their home in Colorado where their three sons Benjamin G. Cordsen, John Richard Cordsen, and James A. Cordsen were born.
Louise and Gordon farmed for several years in the Wellington, Colorado area before moving to Ft. Collins in 1955. Louise worked at the First Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church, Ft. Collins before becoming the Secretary for the United Campus Ministry, now the Geller Center for Spiritual Development where she retired in 1989.
Louise liked to garden, enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking. She was preceded in death by both parents, a granddaughter, husband Gordon and son, John Richard,
She is survived by two sons and three daughter-in-laws. Benjamin and Carol Cordsen, Kathleen Cordsen, James and Eileen Cordsen, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Pathways Hospice.
