Dr. Day was born in Gadsden in 1936 on Christmas Day. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1954 and from the University of Alabama in 1958. He received his DMD from the UAB School of Dentistry in 1963 and was a practicing dentist in Gadsden for more than 51 years. Upon graduation from dental school, he was commissioned to the Army as a Captain and was stationed, along with his wife Jeannie, in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Dr. Day had a lifelong love of big band music and was a talented saxophone player. He was a member of the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band and Gadsden’s Kings of Swing. Dr. Day was a longtime member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing golf as a pastime for many years, but the central focus of his life was his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he excelled at and enjoyed each of these roles beyond measure.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Jackson Day, and by children Darien Day (wife – Barbara; children – David Day, Adrienne Day), Brad Day, Chris Day (wife – Susan; children – Stella Day, Owen Day), and Angela Day.
Honorary pall bearers are current and past members of the Kings of Swing.
