Virgia was raised in Macomb, Mississippi along with her 4 siblings; Berniece Lidge, James Patterson, Bobby Patterson and Jessie Marie Riles. She was the 2nd child of the 5 children. As a young child, she showed her creative ability in many ways. She was outgoing and animated. She enjoyed new activities and pursued a variety of interests. She took part in Basketball. She loved Dancing and Singing.
Virgia was a beautiful young woman who caught the eye of a handsome young sailor by the named of Leslie W.P. Carter. They were married May 20th 1962. They moved and settled in California where Leslie was station in the Navy. They were blessed with 4 children, to their union, Delbert Ann Swancy (Debra), Linda Darnell Carter, Leander Fitzgerald Carter and Leslie Vandell Carter.
Virgia's memorable achievements included returning to nursing school at the age of 35, became an LVN then continued her studies to become a Registered Nurse at Long Beach Memorial Hospital where she was employed for 15 years.
Virgia enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. She participated in a beauty pageant held by the Long Beach Police Department at the age of 30 and was crowned Ms. Long Beach.
Throughout her later years, Virgia was an active member of the Eastern Stars. She held close traditional values and as a result, faith was important to her. She was a member of Artesian Wells Christian Church for 16 years.
Virgia was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 2 honorary grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren and 1 honorary great grandchild. All boys, and 1 honorary daughter.
Virgia was the kind of person who could win others over easily. She was always able to provide amusing repartee to her friends and acquaintances, offering a seemingly endless supply of jokes and stories. She enjoyed her life and the experience of living it. This is how everyone will remember Virgia Lee Carter.
She is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 brother, 1 sister, 1 daughter in law, nieces and nephews, uncles, aunt, cousins, honorary daughter, grand/great grandchildren and friends.
