Bob Townes passed away in the evening of Monday June 9, 2015 surrounded by his family. Bob was predeceased by his parents Robert V. Townes Sr. and Zada “Pete” Townes and his beloved wife of 60 years Dorothy Clusker Townes who gave him his family of six children.
Bob is survived by his current wife Jesse Wiggins Townes, Son Robert V. Townes III (Barbara), Susan Townes Carter, Gary Townes (Debbie), Linda Townes Piteo (Robert), Chris Townes (Sherrie), Janice LeSueur (Steve), 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Bob was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and happily served his country during World War II. He was a proud member of the “Greatest Generation”.
He was employed by the American Cast Iron Pipe Company for 40 years.
He loved the outdoors, golf and especially bass fishing, and instilled that passion in his sons and grandsons.
Bob’s biggest love was for his family of six children and their families. He was our gofer and handyman for many years. He loved doing our home projects for us.
He was most proud of all of his six children and the steadfastness in their Catholic faith. Bob is a founding member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Gardendale, AL.
Bob married Jessie Wiggins after the death of Dot. Jessie gave him love and joy in his remaining years. For that his children are appreciative for her love and care.
Visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Gardendale on Wednesday June 10 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM followed by a Rosary at 7:30.
The Funeral Mass will be Thursday Morning June 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM, with entombment to follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens mausoleum.
