Rosemary Orr Kannaday, age 79, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, October 10, 2018. Rosemary was born in Gulfport, Mississippi and raised as a young child in the Panama Canal Zone before returning to the United States where she attended North Augusta High School and graduated in 1957. She was elected “Miss Hi Miss” and Vice President of her senior class and participated as a Girl’s State representative. With a passion for music learned from her father, Rosemary was a highly acclaimed church pianist and played regularly for her high school. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. There, she was inducted into the Rho-Chi pharmacy honor society, graduated second in her class, and was awarded the Merk Award for most outstanding student. She enjoyed a long- standing membership at St. Martin’s in the Fields Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild.
Rosemary and her husband (also a pharmacist) relieved each other in various pharmacies, as they were “professional partners” the ten years they were married. She retired to gardening, music, and family after 22 years as a pharmacist at Dorn Veterans Hospital.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Alexander Orr, her loving husband, Walter Carlisle Kannaday, Jr., and her son, Walter Carlisle “Trey” Kannaday, III.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Kannaday Long and her husband, Dr. Gary Winn Long; one sister, Charlotte Orr Neville and her husband Roy Neville; four grandchildren, Garrett Winn Long, Grayson Carlisle Long, Alaina Garland Long, and Ella Carlisle Kannaday; other family members and a host of friends.
Celebration of life services will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home (Devine), Columbia, SC on Monday, October 15, 2018 with a time of visitation beginning at 10:30am; funeral service at 11:00am followed by a committal service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC.
