Tommy Franklin Abney of Elberta, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018, after a lengthly illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Shirley Jean Harris Abney, and his brother Waltis Eugene Abney. He is survived by his children, Tommy Franklin Abney, Jr., Susan Denise Abney Tracy, Christi Jean Abney Widener (David), and Thomas Ashley Abney (Angela), his grandchildren, Joseph David Tracy (Tiffani), Stephen Harris Widener, Nicholas Glen Widener (Kelsie), James Austin Laurie, Ashton Gage Abney, and Ashlyn Danielle Abney, and one great-grandchild Bryleigh Grace Tracy. He is also survived by his brother John Howard Abney (Maureen), his sisters Peggy Sue Abney Sylvester, and Jackie Abney Hinson (Bill).
Mr. Abney retired from Burlington-Northern Santa Fe railroad after forty-one years of service. He was a member of Crossway Baptist Church, Foley, Alabama. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday December 11, 2018 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel in Gardendale, Al. at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Abney will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Abney requested that donations be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, South Carolina, 29731.
