Huntersville – Juanita Miles Broome, 86, of Huntersville, NC passed away peacefully on April 6, 2012 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. Born in Duncan, SC, she was the daughter of David Porter and Onie McKinney Miles and grew up in Gastonia, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” L. Broome and sister, Cornelia Miles Tamley. Mrs. Broome was an extraordinary mother, sister, friend and mentor who shared her love of the water by teaching many young children to swim at Suttle’s Swim Club in Charlotte in the early 1960’s. She continued her love of the water when she and her husband Bill moved to Lake Norman in 1972. While there, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Juanita was the life of any party – known affectionately to some as “Sparkplug” – she could light up any room with her charm and wit. She was a friend of Bill W’s since 1978 and developed many special, long-lasting friendships throughout this fellowship. Mrs. Broome retired from the U. S. Postal Service and was a member of Denver Baptist Church and more recently Lake Norman Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, William Barry Broome and wife, Junko of St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands; Eric Reginald Broome of Mt. Holly, NC; Karen Patricia Broome of Charlotte; sister Margaret Black of Gastonia; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Broome and partner, Eva Harris, Jason Eric Broome and wife Hanh, Erika Dawn Broome Hallman and husband, Clay; and great-grandchildren, Savannah Darbi Williamson, Blakely Shea Hallman, William Davis Hallman, and Thomas William Broome; and her beloved cat, K. C. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 11th at Lake Norman Baptist Church, Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. She was definitely one of a kind. Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother to her daughter-in-laws and friend. I loved her dearly. She had such a positive impact on so many people and will be missed. She leaves great memories for all that loved her.

She always made me laugh. I can remember her teaching me to swim, and one day after my lessons she got a brush caught in my hair. She accomplished things with one hand most people with two couldnt. She will be dearly missed.

Juanita was a dear friend when I lived on Lake Norman in the 80s. Some of my fondest memories are of visiting Bill and Juanita at their lovely lake home. I will remember her as the delightful, warm, energetic friend she was to me.

So many memories of Juanita and Ruth and their antics. Gosh, it was just fun being around her. I remember once lamenting to her that I wished I could quit smoking. She said, "Paul, when the time comes for you to quit you will know it. Until then just don't worry about it." You know what? I took her advice, and she was right! I relied on her wisdom and friendship when I was having difficult times in the 80s. She was always there. My mom, Norah, told me of Juanita's passing, and I'm glad to read that is was peaceful.

I send my deepest condolences to her family and close friends. I wish you the comfort of many happy memories.
