Richard was born May 19, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Susie Dawson and Pierce Hastings Sr. He was the seventh out of eight children. Richard Charles Hastings was called home on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Richard graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1963. He later moved north where he enrolled in barber school in Fort Worth, Texas. He also took courses at Temple Junior College in Temple, Texas. Richard began his career at Wright’s Nursing Home and Holy Cross Hospital until its closure in 1989. He then began working at Austin State Hospital and Travis State School, where he retired from after 25 years of service in 2007. He received numerous accolades during his tenure at Austin State Hospital, but most notably, is meeting his future wife, Eunice Carolyn Espy. After retiring, Richard devoted his time to the community by serving as a bus driver for Georgetown Independent School District.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers Pierce Jr., Willie D., Alfred, and Donald.
Mourning his passing are his wife of 52 years and his 3 children: Clayton (Courtni), Aaron (Donna), and Coretta (Big John). He has 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is remembered through his siblings: Nora Lee, Rosie Lee, Daniel (Lorraine), brother-in-law Bobby Espy (Cora), brother-in-law Brian, and Aunt Alma Lois Clark.
He enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, where he was better known as “PawPaw”. Everyone he encountered would be treated as an extension of his family. He would always say, “I don’t believe in friends…you are MY family.”
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rudy Williams officiating.
