Janeth Owens, age 84, passed away on May 22, 2018 in Georgetown, Texas. She was born in Pine Camp, Nebraska on March 2, 1934, the daughter of Kenneth and Vivian Gipson. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Keya Paha County High School in Springview, Nebraska in 1952. She taught in rural schools for several years before moving to El Paso, Texas.
She married Robert Owens in 1957, and as he was in the Army, moved with him to various places, including Germany and Washington, D.C. Upon his retirement they settled in Briggs, Texas, where they lived until 2002, when they moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska to care for her mother. After her mother’s death in 2007, Jan and Bob returned to Texas, where they made their home in Sun City for several years. Bob passed away in 2011 and Jan stayed in Sun City until she moved in 2016 to Brookdale Senior Living in Georgetown.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Joan, and her brother, Jack. She is survived by her sister, Judy and her husband Tom Ellison of Rome, Georgia and her nieces and nephews.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Jan’s name to the ASPCA or an animal rescue charity of the donor’s choice.
An informal visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. She will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. A lunch reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home.
