It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother Olive Vokey (Caines) at home surrounded by her loving family, on December 13,2020 at the age of 88. Born in Glace bay on November 26,1932, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Esther Caines. Mom worked at the Peoples Store for 20 years before she retired. In her retirement she loved spending her days in her flower garden and yard and of course her 3 o’clock happy hour. She always talked about summers she spent on Scarterie Island. She was very loving and would do anything for you, she took care of everyone. Her pride and joy were her 5 girls and she let everyone know it. She is survived by her 5 daughters, Diane (Sheldon) Briggs, Ontario; Debbie (Gary) Scott; Paula (Blaine) McKinnon; Sandra (Jimmy) Devison and Pamela (Darrell) Gouthro of Glace Bay. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Troy, Craig, Darryl, Kenny, Nicole, Scott, Dale, Linsey and Steven; also 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by brother Jerry. Besides her parents she was pre-deceased by her husband Samuel of 66 years, brothers Billy, Les, John, Jimmy; sisters Rhoda and Shirley. Also the loss of son Jason at Birth. A special Thank you to Dr. Ley for his care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, there will be no visitation or service as per family wishes. Burial to take place at a later date. Online condolences can be sent to www.pattenfuneral.com Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard but always near. To all Aunt Olives dear family. I am so sorry for your great loss. Even though we didn't see each other over the years, I will certainly be missing her. She always sent Christmas cards every year and I really welcomed the card for this Christmas as well. I remember Olive when I was a child as she lived next door with her parents. Later in years she married my Uncle Sammie and she became my Aunt. Later we moved away, the farthest was to Ontario. So happy that my Sister Dale and I had a visit with them both in 2016 We all certainly had great memories of Aunt Olive and Uncle Sammie in one way or another They will be forever in our hearts! Kisses and Hugs to all.

From the time I was little I remember going to visit Olive and Sam. We had the best times there and I always remember the Saturday night music parties. She was my favorite Aunt. I will be thinking of her and I know she is happy being with Sam and her sisters and brothers.

Dear, Diane, Debbie, Paula, Sandra, Pam and families
I was saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. Olive was a lovely lady with a very kind heart. Do you recall our families summer camping adventure together many years ago over the Cabot Trail, between the Vokey's and the Currie's , there were 12 children. Our dear parents worked so tirelessly to provide for us, we were blessed to have them as long as we did. Thinking of you all at this sad time. Love, Kim (Currie) Thomson

Pam, while I saw her on several occasions, I actually met and spoke to your mom only once.....at Steven’s graduation.......and I was struck by her small stature and her huge personality! She was lovely, kind and full of life!
I know you all will miss her so much. My thoughts are with you all.
