IN THE CARE OF
Patten Funeral Home
Rachel Ferguson, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at Seaview Manor on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the age of 95 years. Rachel was born March 11, 1927 and resided in Glace Bay her entire life. After completing high school, she became a teacher, completing her teaching degree at Mount Allison University. She taught various grades in different schools, ending her career as a high school English teacher at Morrison Glace Bay High School. Rachel took advantage of school summers off, to travel with her lifelong friend Anna MacLeod and to visit family in B.C. and the U.S. Her sport of choice, along with Anna, was badminton and they competed in competitions, though always more for fun than winning. She also enjoyed bridge and was rarely seen without a book or crossword puzzle in hand. Rachel resided in the only home she ever lived in until last year, thanks to her caring neighbours Gloria and George Smith. She was predeceased by her sisters Isabelle Ferguson and Florence Obear. She will be lovingly remembered by her niece Tara Downs, and cousins Leo MacLeod, Florence MacLeod, and Mary “Sis” McNeil.
A Funeral Service will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay on Monday, Aug. 8 at 11am with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.
