Harold grew up in Concordia, MO and graduated from St. Paul’s Lutheran High School. Harold proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic and escort for a 5-Star General during World War II in Japan. Upon returning, Harold went to work the GM Aircraft Division and then moved to TWA, where he retired after 36 years. After meeting Vernita Tyer at the La Fiesta Ballroom in downtown Kansas City where the Jitter Bug was always flying. They fell in love and married in 1952.
Dancing always brought him joy and happiness. Hobbies included repairing TV’s, fishing, camping, and relaxing at Lake Viking. He was proud of his family and their accomplishments. He and Vernita enjoyed winters in warmer climates and travels to places like Arizona and Florida. Trips to Branson every summer were important parts of retirement. Harold was also a world traveler to London, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hawaiian Islands.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Vernita; four brothers, Omar, Orville, Herbert, and Melvin, and one sister, Alverna.
Survivors include two daughters, Denise (John) Lugo and Deborah Ham; one brother, Earl; seven grandchildren, Anthony (Caitlyn), Jennifer (Jeff), Joseph, Angela, Tammy (Larry), Kelly, and David (Jennifer); eight great grandchildren, Lucas, Raelynn, Ella, Jacob, Brooke, Emillia, Izaiah, and Micah; and many nieces and nephews.
