Rose was the youngest of five daughters born to Edward & Ruth Fetrow in Haddam, KS. She graduated from Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, KS. She chose to go into education because she had always enjoyed learning and had tremendous respect for her teachers and an uncle who taught and was a principal. While in college, she met her husband, Karrol H (Johnny) Johnston, and they married in 1949. During their marriage, they had six children. For adventures over the years, the family enjoyed spending time at a couple lakes in Wichita, KS. Rose & her husband loved dancing, bowling, & golfing. She also loved crossword puzzles, playing (& winning) card games, and visiting with family. Rose was a quiet person with an awesome sense of humor.
She was proceeded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters: Nettie Mowers, Ruth Baird, and Grace Kennedy; one brother who died as an infant; and three sons: Doug, Bob & Kevin. She is survived by three children: Steve (Sherlene) Johnston of Broken Arrow, OK; Karri (Scott) Fedale of Moscow, ID; and Yvonne (Vance) Herrick of Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
