Gary B. Berschauer

January 14, 1940June 26, 2020

Gary Brent Berschauer, age 80, of Phoenix, Arizona went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 26, 2020. He was born on January 14, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, to Ruth (Gunter) Berschauer and Emanuel Berschauer.

Gary moved to Arizona in April of 1961 and a few short months later he met the love of his life Ms. Doris Avery. Gary was drafted into the United States Army in May of 1963 and after graduating bootcamp while on leave he returned to Arizona and he and Doris went to Las Vegas where they were married at the Little Church of the West on July 27, 1963. Gary was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1963-1965. After serving in the military Gary worked as an auto mechanic for over 40 years for various companies, and he delivered beauty supplies for Armstrong McCall for over 20 years.

Gary’s hobbies included old cars, playing golf, and karaoke. Gary and Doris owned a 1953 Allstate car (Ollie) that was in many car shows and a parade since 1969. Gary served as Vice President of the VMCCA Car Club and attended national car meets in various states. Gary was a member of the American Legion for over 30 years. Gary’s love for country music brought him to another passionate hobby, singing karaoke that lasted more than 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Berschauer, sister Carol Greer (Berschauer). Gary is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Doris Elaine Berschauer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

I was blessed to have met Gary through employment in 1993. He became like a dad to me. After I met you and Doris, my life and my heart have never been the same. He always had a kind thought and many words of fatherly wisdom for me and my husband Tony. After we moved to Missouri, we still stayed in touch with phone calls each day and on our family trips to California, we made sure to stop and see Doris and Gary when we could even if it was only for a meal at the airport. We will miss you so much Gary but you are forever in our hearts.
Love always,
Cindy and Tony

Gary Berschauer is my uncle my dads older brother. Such a kind man with such a love for his brother Don. He told me a year ago that he missed my dad so much that he just wanted to go be with him. They are together now and I bet so happy. I love you Uncle Gary RIP with my dad for eternity! Nothing could keep them apart long!

Wish there were not so many miles between us. We will be there in heart and soul and thinking of you with loving thoughts. Gary was a very special brother in law. He always had kind words to say on our many visits on the phone. We will always remember our visit seeing the Grand Canyon, going to the bar to see the men getting their ties cut off, going over the border to the Casino along with the many other fun things. Until we meet again you will always be here in our hearts.
