Gilbert L. From, 82, of Phoenix, Arizona drifted into Heaven on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Gilbert was born in Ravenwood, Missouri, one of three children to Ina Marie (Ralston) and John P. From on July 12, 1939.
When Gilbert was just three years old the family relocated to Arizona to get help in controlling his brothers Asthma. Gilbert attended Longview elementary school and graduated from North High, in Phoenix in 1957. While attending a Football game with his friends, Gilbert met the love of his life, Joan Ann, a senior at Sunnyslope High School. This was all by chance, as Joan was set up to meet one of Gilbert’s friends. It turns out that Gilbert’s friend joined the military and was deployed soon after. Gilbert began courting Joan. In September of 1958, Gilbert and Joan were married at Valley Bible Baptist Church. They began their life together and enjoyed each other’s company. They spent all their free time together. Gilbert landed a position with a trucking company and began his “over the road” career, where he spent over 30 years.
Gilbert and Joan wanted children, but time just kept passing. They decided that “if it was meant to be it would be”. Then, seventeen years into their marriage, they found out that they were going to be parents. Gilbert and Joan had a baby girl in 1976 and she became the focus of their lives. Gilbert loved doing projects in the home one after another, sometimes never completing one before he moved on to the next; he was a “work in progress”. Gilbert will be remembered for his love and dedication to his baby girl.
Gilbert leaves behind his only love of, almost 63 years in September, Joan; his daughter, Shannon (husband John) Beddome; grandson Ian (13) and granddaughter Avery (10); and close friends.
Gilbert is preceded in heaven by his parents John and Ina From, his brother sister.
