Gilmore J. Egge
January 18, 1924 – September 2, 2019
Gilmore J. Egge passed away on September 2, 2019. He was born January 18, 1924 in Mayville, North Dakota to the late Selmer and Ruth (Enge) Egge.
Gilmore was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 1980, his mother Ruth (Enge) Egge in November 1976, his father Selmer Egge in 1936, and his sister Alice Elaine (Egge) Karlstad in 2002.
Gilmore served his country in World War II with the 483rd Bombardment Group 815th Squadron aboard a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber.
After the war Gilmore attended Wahpeton State School of Science now (North Dakota State College of Science) and worked for The Red Owl grocery store chain for many years. The title sequence of The Mary Tyler Moore Show has Mary in a Red Owl meat department. In 1977 Gilmore moved with his family to Glendale, Arizona. He obtained a job with the State of Arizona as a building engineer. In the course of his job, Gilmore met multiple distinguished people including Governor Rose Mofford.
Gilmore is survived by two sons Steve (Judy) & Bill (Theresa), five grandchildren Nicole, Corey, Sierra, Savana & Colten, and two great grandchildren Kendra & Trinity.
Alice’s children also survive Gilmore. Elizabeth Hansen, South Lake Tahoe, CA, Brian Tastad, Mayville, North Dakota, Rick Tastad Mayville, North Dakota, Becki Harstad, Mayville, North Dakota and Brad Tastad, Portland, North Dakota.
Numerous cousins, nieces & nephews also survive Gilmore. Including Darlene Hanson and her three sons Paul, Rick, and Brian who live in Mayville and Portland, ND; sister-in-laws Mary Lou Cote, Fargo, LaVon (Doug) Tongate, Olympia, WA, Judy McCarty, Fargo and brother-in-law Wesley (Edie) of Fargo.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6540 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ.
