

Valencia Dodd (Hegler) was born September 25, 1927 in De Kalb, Texas to Cecil Morris and Opal Aline Hegler. She lived there until October, 1935 when they moved to Ajo, Arizona where she attended school, graduating in 1946.
Valencia was a very gifted piano and organ player. In her youth she played for the school choirs and won a music scholarship to Northern Arizona University. Valencia was an organist for the Federated church for many years until the Baptist Church was organized and then became their organist for 34 years.
While in Ajo she taught organ and piano and was a member of First Baptist Church (Calvary Baptist) teaching Sunday school, working in Bible school and a member of Women’s Missionary Union.
She moved to Glendale, Arizona in 1978 and went to work for Circle K where she was a clerk and then a manager, retiring after 11 years of dedicated service.
Valencia was married to Charles (Leon) Dodd for 57 years until he passed away on October 26, 2003.
Valencia is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Opal Hegler, husband Charles (Leon) Dodd, and her brother William “Bill” Hegler. Valencia is survived by her daughter Sharon Elaine Reif (Dwight Reif), son Charles Michael Dodd, grandchildren Michael (Shannon), Adam (Tara), Sheri (George Patton), Christopher (Michelle), Amy (Kenny Bubash) and Ashley Reif, ten great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, sister-in-Law Sheila Hegler and many nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16th, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Avenue, Glendale. Funeral Services to celebrate Valencia’s life will be held Thursday, November 17th, 2016 at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix.
The family wants to especially thank the wonderful caregivers at Seniors Preserve and Sanctuary Hospice. They were truly angels sent to us in our time of need.
