MaryLee Melampy of West Covina passed away peacefully on July 21st at the age of 77 in a loving senior care home, following a courageous seven year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. She was born in Los Angeles, California. She was the second-born child of Merritt Edward Grimm and Grace Landry Grimm. Marylee is survived by her older brother, Merritt Grimm, his wife Nancy, her younger sister, Nancy Kessler, her three nephews, Zack and Steven Kessler and Jonas Grimm, her nieces Sara Kessler Packard and Alison Grimm, three grand- nephews and five grand-nieces,, along with her beloved step-daughter, Donna Melampy whom she loved as a daughter.
She was preceded in death, by her parents Merritt and Grace and her beloved husband, David Melampy of West Covina.
MaryLee was born in Los Angeles and lived there with her family until they moved to Baldwin Park in 1950 where she grew up and graduated from Baldwin Park High School in 1959.
She married David Melampy in 1968 and resided in West Covina the rest of her life. She worked for a production company that made small camera parts for 20 years. David was a specialist in repairing printing presses, which he did most of his life. David and MaryLee enjoyed going to London, England, and Scotland several times with their close friends where David golfed when they were not sight-seeing. They went on a cruise in Alaska, she rode a hot air balloon, and went white water rafting. David and MaryLee were married for 44 years until he passed away in 2012. Marylee loved animals and had a Labrador dog named Arnold and several cats and her most loved tortoise, April. She loved her visits to the Bay area with her sister Nancy, where she visited her nephews and nieces, and several stays in Santa Rosa at the wild animal park to see her favorite animal, the giraffe.
She also made many trips to San Clemente to visit her brother Merritt and his wife Nancy, her niece and nephew, and loved to dine at the Fisherman’s Restaurant at the San Clemente pier.
She was a wonderful woman, step-mom, and friend. She will be missed for her love of people, her love of nature, and her love of life. She was most generous with her family and friends, putting their needs often first. MaryLee will sorely be missed. We’re grateful she has found peace.
