A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, Al passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the age of 69, at The Carpenter House, surrounded by family. He had an unyielding Christian faith and a love for spending time and traveling with family. He enjoyed working in his shop and yard, especially around Christmas when it was time to decorate for the holidays. Al also loved his sports especially when LSU and the San Francisco Giants were playing.
Al is survived by his adoring wife, Melrose “Mel” Duvernay Berthelot; mother, Kathleen Schlatre Berthelot; daughter, Jennifer Berthelot McCann and husband, Keith; sons, Mark Berthelot and wife, Jessica and Wayne Berthelot and wife, Spreigh; sisters, Kitty and Ronnie Wells of Baton Rouge, Lynette and Alex Ivanyisky, and Suzi and Jimmie Parker all of Denham Springs; grandchildren, Heidi Berthelot, Reece McCann, Symone Berthelot, Bristal Berthelot, Luke Berthelot, and Brennan Himel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Berthelot, Sr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Schlatre, Sr. of Plaquemine and Mr. and Mrs. William Berthelot of Morganza; father and mother in law, Wilson “Sue” and Shirley Duvernay; and brothers in law, Darryl Duvernay and Eddie Bateman.
Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 5 pm to 9 pm. Visiting will resume at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales on Monday from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial to follow in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.
Pallbearers will be Mark Berthelot, Wayne Berthelot, Keith McCann, Shane Wells, Kyle Wells, Clint Parker, Stephen Bateman, and Brian Bateman. Dustin Haydel and Scott Bateman will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to The Carpenter House.
