

Christ T. Sanidas, age 80, passed away February 1, 2012 in Winter Garden, FL. Christ retired as Shelby County building official in 1987, having served in the Shelby County Building Code Department for 26 1/2 years. After his retirement, he moved to Orlando, Florida, where he served as Orange County Building Official for 19 years.
During his career, Christ was a member of several building code organizations. He served two consecutive terms as president of the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), was a member of the Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF), and was a member of the International Code Council (ICC). In 1999, he was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Building Commission, where he served until his retirement from Orange County in 2007.
Christ graduated with two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Memphis and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Sanidas served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a Greek language interpreter to the Greek Expeditionary Force. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge and returning to Memphis.
In passing away, he joins his parents, Tom and Christine Sanidas, as well as his brother George and his sister, Mary Scordas.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years, Doris; his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. George and Edna Nichopoulos of Memphis; daughter Christie Sanidas Hampson of Bentonville, AR; sons Tom of Thonotosassa, FL and Michael of Clermont, FL. Christ is also survived by grandchildren Victoria, Bradley, Tyler, Sarah, and Madeline. May his memory be eternal.
