Mrs. Sandeen,

I remember coming to your house everyday after school at 5 or 6 years old when I lived next door to you, David, Kim, Karen and Mr. Sandeen in Chicago on Oglesby Ave. It was over 40 years ago but the memory is as new as yesterday in my mind. You were a a very kind, loving mother and treated me as one of your own when I stayed at your house. And when you put your foot down, everybody knew you meant business!

Whenever you did I was always a little afraid of you, but a bit of fear has a way of creating lasting respect in a child's mind. I always got the feeling you gave us tough love because you truly cared. The heart never lies, and I know you simply wanted the best for your children and me too. It's hard not to cry as I write this. I will always have great memories of you telling me to go upstairs and change my clothes so I could eat a snack at your kitchen table and watch kung fu theater with David. Thank you for being like a mother to me after school for the entire time I lived in Chicago. You are never forgotten and will always be greatly missed. Thank you for being you.

Sister Sandeen,
I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to get to know you and your family. You’ll always have such a special place in my heart. I’ve eaten at your dinner table, shopped in your closet, and laid around on your living room floor listening to music. You’ll always be remembered as a true fashionista!!! Stylish and classy!!!
Love,
